Recruitment has always comprised a significant proportion of Avocado Media's billings. In fact, the first advertisement placed by the agency, in September 1984, was a half page recruitment ad. It was a foundation that was to stand the agency in good stead. After all, job ads are the most direct response-orientated of all advertising. If the telephone fails to ring and the mailbag is empty, there's no hiding behind 'awareness issues or 'branding' arguments.

'brading' arguments.

The company's two founders both came from a personnel background. Hugh Joslin established his first recruitment consultancy in 1982, having worked in the industry since the 1970s. George Shaw, having held senior positions in consultancy, media and agency spheres throughout the 1980s, was voted 'Most Respected Person in Recruitment' by the readers of Recruit magazine in 1990.

Companies such as Cable & Wireless, Bristol Helicopters and Connolly Leather, as well as financial institutions including; Girozentrale Vienna, Fuji Bank, Morgan Grenfell and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce have all retained Joslin Shaw for recruitment campaigns.

Pipping the long-established
and more staid agencies for
award after award

Recruitment is a sector of the advertising industry that is not traditionally renowned for high level creativity. But Joslin Shaw has never been a great believer in tradition, pipping the long-established and more staid agencies for award after award.

Not that winning awards is our primary objective. They're simply a pleasant bi-product of doing our job well.
